Aside from obvious positive impacts of community wellbeing and the creation of much-needed integration opportunities, the project will reduce the carbon footprint of local people in a significant way. It is estimated that approximately 25 young people from within walking distance of the proposed hall location currently use motor transport to similar sports facilities outside the local area on three evenings per week. With a local facility within the village this will be greatly reduced. The community hall will be an exemplar of energy efficiency measures including solar panels, ground heat pump and sustainability awareness within community buildings.

The negative environmental impact of this project will be minimal. The use of build material and construction activity in the build phase will have the usual environmental effect but all due care has been taken in the design to ensure that environmental sustainability is a key consideration in the future operation of the hall. The measures include the implementation of heat insulation measures which are substantially above the building regulation guidelines. A ground heat pump has been included in the design and hot water will be provided by solar panels. KCHA has agreed that the sustainability theme will be a key feature of the hall operational procedures including a community educational component.
